Two students from Minnechaug Regional High School in Wilbraham, Massachusetts, have been interning at Life Care Center of Wilbraham during the spring 2019 semester.
Jennifer Kovarek and Jessica Smith have been learning basic nursing skills under the mentorship of the nursing staff at the facility. They have also been sharing compassion and friendship with the residents and provided special comfort to a resident who was passing away.
“My experiences at Life Care Center of Wilbraham have showed me that each job is equally as important,” said Kovarek. “The internship gives me an appreciation for how hard everyone works to take care of the patients. I have always loved health and science and knew I wanted to work in health care. I ultimately chose nursing after observing the close patient interactions that nurses provide.”
Smith also shared her insights: “On my first day, I learned that as a nurse it is necessary to maintain patience, prioritize your duties and be able to multitask. I have learned that it is necessary to be compassionate but also be able to control yourself so that you don’t get distracted with the rest of your work. I have also learned that it is impossible to please everyone, but you have to try to help them as best as you can.”
Life Care Center of Wilbraham’s staff said thank you to the girls on March 5 by sharing bouquets of flowers.
Both young ladies plan to pursue a degree and career in nursing.
